Individual Music Therapy

At Kirklees Music Therapy, we offer personalised 1:1 music therapy that is tailored to each client’s unique needs. These sessions can support a variety of emotional, social, and developmental goals, and are suitable for individuals of all ages.

About the session

Each session typically lasts 50 minutes, though the duration can be adjusted based on what’s most beneficial for the client. We begin with an initial assessment to understand the client’s background and establish clear therapeutic goals. This ensures that every session is focused on their specific needs.

Sessions can take place at your convenience—whether at home, in school, or in another familiar setting—ensuring the client feels comfortable and secure. During the sessions, a variety of therapeutic techniques are used, including songwriting, improvisation, listening, and reflection, as well as activities to build motor skills and communication.

All musical instruments and resources needed for the sessions are provided by Kirklees Music Therapy. This includes a range of instruments suitable for all ages and abilities, ensuring that clients have everything they need to fully engage in their therapeutic experience.

We also believe in a collaborative approach. Where relevant, we work closely with other professionals involved in the client’s care, such as speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, and school staff. This helps to create a holistic support network around the client, ensuring that music therapy complements and enhances their overall development.

Fees and Initial Contact

We offer a complimentary initial contact phone call, typically lasting about 20 minutes. This is a great opportunity to discuss your needs and explore how music therapy can benefit you or your child.

Following the initial call, an assessment session is conducted at a cost of £110. This comprehensive assessment includes a detailed discussion about the client's development and any concerns you may have, along with various assessment activities. Depending on the client's age and needs, the assessment may involve informal methods, such as play-based activities and observation. It is important to make sure that the therapist has time to go at the client’s pace so that a positive therapeutic relationship can begin to form.

After the assessment, we will discuss our observations and results with you and collaboratively agree on a plan of action, tailored to support the client's unique needs. This ensures that we create a targeted approach to achieve the best possible outcomes.

Individual music therapy sessions are priced at £65 for a 50-minute session. We offer flexibility in our approach, providing both short-term and longer-term therapy options to best meet the needs of each client. The session fee includes all necessary communication between sessions, planning, clinical administration, and any required liaison with other professionals involved in the client’s care.
